Areas of Responsibility
|
|
The
Department of Information Systems is located in Webb Hall. The primary
purpose of Information Systems is to provide computer support to the
University community. The Information Systems department provides
administrative systems for processing of University related data,
academic systems for access by faculty, staff, and students, support for
the University computer network, as well as University-wide access to
the Internet. Information Systems has six distinct functions: |
|
1. |
Planning:
The I/S department provides assistance to user departments requiring
initial or additional computer support. Technical staff members are
available for cost studies, forms design, file design, equipment
requirements, and other needs required to complete a project. |
|
2. |
Equipment
Setup: the I/S department is available to assist in the installation
of hardware to be attached to the University network. |
|
3. |
Analyst
and Programming Services: Users requiring new systems, additional
applications or program maintenance coordinate these activities with the
I/S Director. |
|
4. |
Equipment
Maintenance: I/S staff is trained in the repair and maintenance of
most computer equipment and software, requests for assistance is
coordinated through an Event Management System (EMS) and the I/S Help
Desk. |
|
5. |
Operations:
Regularly scheduled procedures are processed to generate reports to
assist administrators in various functions. A Work Order system is used
as a means of requesting reports that are, by their nature, needed
"on demand." |
|
6. |
Networks:
The I/S department maintains network servers to provide users with
individual accounts necessary to access Internet resources. Dial-in
servers also provide access for those users not directly connected to
the university network. Any faculty or staff member who wishes network
access must complete a request form in the Department of Information
Systems. Any student who wishes network access may visit the I/S office
to sign the required form or they may request the form by U.S. Mail.
Faculty, staff, and students are provided with web portal accounts that
include email and that may be accessed from any web browser. Network accounts are removed upon termination
of employment (faculty and staff) or enrollment (students). |
