Exchange Email File Clean-up Procedures

If you are unable to send or receive messages from your UWA Exchange email account, the problem is possibly due to your email account exceeding the 100 megabyte storage limit for student accounts. You will need to delete all old, outdated and redundant e-mail information from your account to allow it to function properly. Of particular note is the necessity to remove files with large attachments for pictures or music. The following instructions will assist you in clearing items from your account:

  1. Login to your Exchange account using your personal userid and password. Your account will open at the Inbox folder.
  2. Select and delete as many items as possible from your Inbox folder. If you have more than 25 messages in your Inbox, click on the Items right direction arrowhead at the upper right side of the screen (located opposite your name on the gray bar) to display additional items for deletion.
     
    Tip: To delete a sequential group of items in the list at once, click on the first item and, while holding down the Shift key, click on the last item to be deleted and then press the delete button (black X) on the toolbar or the Delete key on your keyboard. You can also select individual items from the list by holding down the Control (Ctrl) key as you click on each item and then deleting the items.
  3. If the folder list is not visible, click on the Folders button on the toolbar at the left of the screen. The toolbar will change to a folder list. Click on the Sent Items folder in this list and proceed with your deletions as you did for the Inbox folder. Most likely you will have to make repeated use of the right navigation button (same as in Step 2 above) to view and delete all of your unwanted sent messages. Click on the Drafts folder and proceed with your deletions as you did for the Inbox folder.
  4. Click on the Deleted Items folder and continue to make deletions from this folder as you did in Step 3. Alternatively, you can press the Empty Deleted Items Folder icon (the one that looks like a wastebasket) on the Exchange toolbar to delete all items in the Deleted Items folder at once. Your e-mail account should now be fully functional once you have exited the account and logged back in.
